26:13 by my watch for @bushyparkrun this morning, which I’m super happy with. My toe was mostly okay, actually felt fine by the last mile. My tummy was not ok, fuelling the run with 3 chocolate digestives and a coffee was a bad move 😬🙈🤦🏼‍♀️ but I survived without incident. But when I got home my toe did not look okay, with a weird white swollen skin on top of the red swollen skin that’s been there since the start 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m so confused. I took the boys out tonight for a bike ride, and to test out my #brokentoe while I ran alongside 🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♂️🏃🏼‍♀️and I’m happy to say it was sore but not painful, for the whole mile and a bit we managed to complete 😂 with one argument (me and Ellis), and 3 crashes (Eben), and we also bumped into @han_runsandstuff 🤗. It’s been over two weeks now that I’ve not been able to run (well I did accompany Ellis and his friend on a 3k fun run last week on holiday 🤷🏼‍♀️) but besides that, I’ve not been able to run, at times barely able to walk. Hopefully I’m out of the woods and can build up again. REDer Caroline’s story might motivate you to put a spin in your step. 🚴‍♀️ ‘As a busy working parent, fitting exercise into daily life is easier said than done. The commute between home and work is the only time I really get to myself. I wanted to maximise that time so started walking / running into work. I live over 10km away so it became a bit of a slog, not the desired effect I was after! I’d considered buying a bike for a while, but was a bit intimated by the busy roads. Thinking about the money it would save me in the long term by not having to pay for transport and the prospect of being able to exercise daily without any impact on my work or family life, gave me the motivation I needed to turn to two wheels. In preparation, I read a few cycling blogs about good road position, being considerate and following road rules. Turns out it really wasn’t as scary as I thought it was. The most important thing I always tell myself is that I can always hop off the bike if I don’t feel comfortable with a section on the road. Beyond the positive effects that exercise has on my mental health, starting a new hobby has also enhanced my confidence. Runner down. I dropped a plate on my toe early Monday morning. I felt it slip out of my hand and I froze, squeezed my eyes shut 🙈, and hoped for the best. Like one of those feinting goats, that freezes in stressful situations 🐐😂🤦🏼‍♀️. I spent all Monday immobile, in pain, and today I managed to get to the office, shuffling around doing my best impression of a snail 🐌, in pain. I’m hopeful it’s just bruised, and tomorrow it feels a bit better. My main concern is if I’ll be able to run @bushyparkrun #800 fancy dress this Saturday 🤞🏻my Shera costume was going to get an outing 🦸🏼‍♀️. First long run of my new training plan for the @richmondrunfest #halfmarathon which I should have started a few weeks ago 😬, but with 6 weeks to go, that’s enough time to buckle down. Today’s run was 10 miles at an easy pace, I was aiming for 9:20/mile and I was 9:18 average at the end, so pretty much bang on.
