A RED start to 2024

When RED January (Run Every Day January) started, way back when in 2016, it was an amazing experience for me, year after year I returned, roped in new friends. I even did a few photo shoots, which was super fun and got to join Red January founder, Hannah, on stage at the Happy Festival to talk about running and mental health.  But then all of a … Continue reading A RED start to 2024

What’s in a mile?

The last time I ran a single mile, for a time, with any competitive edge, was in high school.  In American high-school (at least when I went which was quite a few years ago now, but still feels like just yesterday) we had to run a mile each year, as a measure of your basic fitness level.  I’ll never forget one year, coming off track and field season, and feeling fit.  I ran that year’s mile in 7 minutes and 30 seconds (or there abouts). I was 16 years old and bloody proud of it.  Fast forward 20+ years, and an opportunity to run another mile race cropped up.

5 tips to help you survive a totally inane injury

I hurt my toe (most likely fractured it), and it was really annoying.  I was just getting started to ramp up my training for a half marathon PB attempt, and kablam… I dropped a plate on my toe.  The pain was indescribable and yes, I had two natural births, I can do pain, but this still bloody hurt.  To be honest, now that it is about 85% better, I’m tired of talking about it (can you hear the collective sigh from my nearest and dearest).  But I have come up with a little list to keep you sane if you happen to go through a totally inane self-inflicted injury that prevents you from running or being active. After the Marathon

It’s done, I’ve done all the training, raised the some money for a good cause, and ran the race.  It’s all done.  Whether you are happy with how you did (or not), it’s all boiled down to that day, and now it is over.  Here are some thoughts for those coming to terms with the post-marathon phase, and what you might expect. 1. Over analysing … Continue reading After the Marathon

Race Review: Brighton Marathon

So, this was my first marathon, and I was pretty proud that I ran 100% of my training plan.  I did substitute a few of the intervals sessions for different ones, but I always hit the mileage, week after week. So, after a pretty successful final 20 mile long run, and a nice taper, I felt ready to do this.  Everyone said, I’d done all the hard work, now was just to go out and do what I trained to do.  Run 26.2 miles.
